One thing that’s important to me as a mom is finding ways to pass down our culture to our kids – and language is such a big part of that. Over the past few years, I’ve gotten so many messages asking for Gujarati learning resources for kids, so I finally put together a list you can come back to whenever you’re ready.
My husband grew up speaking Gujarati fluently, so it came very naturally to him. I didn’t grow up speaking at home and only started learning much later, so my Gujarati is far from perfect. But having kids has definitely motivated me to make more of an effort to incorporate the language into our home and to find ways to share it with them.
The good news is that there are some really great resources available today. Whether you’re just starting out, looking for something fun to do with grandparents, or simply trying to introduce Gujarati to your kids, these are some of the resources we’ve tried – or have on our radar!
Gujarati Books for Kids & Beginners
ByBasil Gujarati Vocabulary Books – @by_basil
If you’re looking for a simple place to start, these Gujarati vocabulary books focus on common, everyday words and are a great introduction. They include phonetic spellings and colorful, engaging illustrations. The full set includes 6 books – Alphabet, Numbers, Colors, Animals, Fruits, Vegetables, and Nature – along with access to the audio version for each. I’ve personally chatted with Tulsi, the creator of ByBasil and she is so genuine and passionate about keeping the Gujarati language alive for future generations. Highly recommend! | Promo code: UNNATI10

Gujarati 101 for Everyone– @desi101foreveryone
This is another great resource for families who want to learn Gujarati.
These books include the English-to-Gujarati translations with English pronunciations. They can be used with younger children as well as older kids who can start reading and practicing on their own. An Audible version is also available.
Unapologetically Desi – Gujarati Bilingual Board Books– @unapologeticallydesi.us
Perfect for your littlest learners, Unapologetically Desi is a husband-wife team that creates bilingual baby board books to celebrate South Asian heritage. The illustrations are so fun and cute and they are the perfect size to take on the go. Their books include Gujarati words along with the English script. Also a great gift for new parents!
Additional Gujarati Learning Books
Here are a few more beginner-friendly Gujarati language books for kids and families worth exploring:

These books are great for building vocabulary and introducing Gujarati words through repetition and visuals. Amazon also has several workbooks – these are on our radar but I have not yet tried with our kids! (If you have, please share your thoughts with me!)
Gujarati Toys & Interactive Learning
Lingo Dodo – Gujarati Learning Pad – @lingododo
If your kids love interactive learning, LingoDodo offers language learning toys that are fun options! The Gujarati Pad helps children learn vocabulary through sound and repetition. Kids can press different buttons to hear words and phrases, making it a great way to reinforce learning in a playful way. Screentime, but make it educational! Truly one of our favorites, highly recommend!

BrightBandarCo – Learning Toys – @brightbandarco
BrightBandarCo offers cultural toys and learning resources designed just for kids! We have the Bilingual Trio Bundle which includes the My First Words Book, Learning Blocks, and the Opposites at the Bazaar puzzle set. All three are great interactive tools where kids are learning without even really realizing it.

Virtual Gujarati Classes for Kids
For families looking for more structured learning, there are also online Gujarati classes available.
Our Swadeshi Roots – @swadeshiroots
We actually tried online classes with Our Swadeshi Roots when Veer was about three years old. At the time, we didn’t finish the lessons because the virtual format was challenging for him at that age. But now that he’s older and more receptive, we’re considering starting again. The class sizes were small and from the few lessons we did complete, they were helpful and interactive. In addition to the classes, keep in mind that there are workbooks and resources that you’ll have to order as well. This is a great way for kids to build their confidence in speaking with others.

Sanskar Teaching – @sanskarteaching
Sanskar Teaching offers Gujarati language classes and cultural education programs for kids. Their lessons focus on language, as well as helping children build a deeper connection with South Asian culture and traditions. Although I have not personally tried these classes, I’ve heard wonderful things about them and several friends have recommended Sanskar Teaching classes.
Spotify
Spotify also has some great (and free!) options you can listen to on the go or in the car. Learn Gujarati by Global Publishers Canada Inc. offers several audio lessons, including numbers, colors, body parts, basic words and expressions, days of the week, and more. There’s also a playlist called 50 Top Gujarati Rhymes, that’s great for babies and toddlers.
Check Local!
Lastly, check your local mandir or ask around for in-person classes in your area. Many temples offer language classes, or you may find someone teaching nearby. This can be a great option for kids and a fun way for them to learn alongside friends.

I hope this list has been helpful! If there’s one thing I’ve learned through this journey, it’s that language learning doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. My boys love learning new words, counting in Gujarati, and trying to chat with their grandparents.
My hope is that this list gives you a helpful starting point whenever you and your kids are ready! If you have any other favorites or helpful tips, I’d love to hear about them! Feel free to share them in the comments so we can all continue building this list together.
