Welcome to part two of our family adventure at Fairmont Mayakoba! In this post, I’m diving into all the details about the pools, beaches, and activities and experiences we enjoyed during our stay! If you missed the first part, you can read that here.
Pools and Beaches
We’re definitely more pool people than beach goers, but we enjoyed both during our stay! We spent a lot of time at the Aqua pool at the Maykana beach club (our favorite!). It’s conveniently located steps away from the beach, close to restaurants, and is clean and spacious. There’s even a shallow area for toddlers and kids, which was great. Just be sure to get there early – poolside chairs are limited! You can also reserve cabanas if you prefer. The resort has a separate children’s pool with a slide, but it doesn’t have any major water features, so keep that in mind if your little ones are into that.
The private beach was beautiful with minimal seaweed or sargassum. It was well-maintained and clean, and the tiki huts were perfect for lounging and snacking. We spent our last day here and it was a blast. If you ask, they’ll even bring you some beach toys!
Activities & Experiences
The resort offers everything from cooking classes and tastings to water sports, beach volleyball, and a kids club (which we didn’t use during our visit). You can also enjoy kayaking, eco-tours, spa treatments, and snorkeling – there’s something for everyone. I wish we had a chance to partake in more of these activities, but maybe next time!
For the birthday celebrations, we planned a surprise scavenger hunt for the hubbies, which led them to golf lessons and a round at El Camaleón Golf Course. They had an amazing time, so if you have any golf enthusiasts in your group, they’ll love this course.
The on-property, guided boat tour is a must-do. It’s a serene ride around the property, perfect for families with kids. Plus, it’s included in your resort fee. We saw everything from birds to alligators and the guide shared some interesting facts about the area. It was also nice to get a closer look at some of the other properties. Remember to book this early as spaces fill up fast! We also did the catamaran experience and even though I’m not usually super adventurous, I ended up enjoying it! Our five-year-old did great, too!
We didn’t really venture too far, but one afternoon, we visited El Pueblito Mayakoba, a charming area full of art galleries, small shops, and restaurants and visited Cenote El Burródromo, which was a fun and unique outing. It was something fun to do with the kids that gave us a break from our typical pool and beach days and got us off property, but still within the gated Mayakoba community. Complimentary transportation is available through the resort, so we arranged that with the concierge.
Final Thoughts
Would I go back? One hundred percent. If you’ve vacationed in the Mayakoba area, you know just how beautiful it is – staying here felt like living in a tropical jungle! Overall, our stay at Fairmont Mayakoba was a perfect mix of relaxation and adventure and we made memories that will last a lifetime. It truly was the ultimate family getaway!
